Call of Duty – This is a name that truly resonates hardcore shooting action with unbelievably realistic graphical surroundings, in addition to the most desirable arsenal that one could ever set sight on, which is precisely why it is no surprise that the franchise has easily made it’s way to the top, and has stayed there for seven years straight now.
As per NPD’s figures, Call of Duty Black Ops 3 is the best selling game in 2015, and with that, the Call of Duty franchise crossed the 250 million mark in the number of units sold. This is a terrific success for a game, in the face of ever increasing competition in the market in terms of innumerable alternatives, innovation and continuous evolution.
Black Ops 3 only got a little less than 2 months to compete with the other games in it’s year of launch, given it’s official release on November 6, 2015, and yet, it became the most successful game of the year.
As stated by the Call of Duty GM Rob Kostich, it was the best-selling title last year by a “wide-margin in both units and dollars”. This also marks the seventh year in a row that Call Of Duty has been the number one-selling franchise in North America, according to NPD.
2016 is set to witness another COD release, with Infinity Ward taking the charge. This will be a chance for them to redeem the lost confidence after the criticism of their last release, Ghosts. Some went as far as tagging Ghosts as an indication of declining COD series, however, the COD franchise quickly rebounded with the launch of Advanced Warfare that went on to become a huge success.
We sure hope to keep getting the intense combat action and unforgettable experiences that COD has relentlessly provided us with, which is precisely why every gamer, casual or regular, has a special place in their hearts for the franchise.
